Who are we?
The University of Iowa Chapter of Amnesty International, is one of the 4000 chapters of the organisation that exists in over 60 countries. Amnesty International is the world's largest and most influential human rights organisation, and is non-partisan and has no affiliation with any government, business or political party.
What do we do?
Amnesty International unilaterally seeks to uphold the rights of all individuals, regardless of nationality, creed, age, gender, race, class, political background or sexual orientation. We base our actions on the rights guaranteed to all people under the United Nation's Universal Declaration of Human Rights andother international human rights laws.
When are our meetings?
For the Spring 2014 semester, we meet on Mondays, from 7:00 pm - 8:00 pm, in Michigan Room 351 at the Iowa Memorial Union (IMU).
How do we function?
We are set up as a Core Group of active members and a loose mailing list of folks interested in human rights. The Core Group meets to plan and keep things happening throughout the year. It is the official link to UI student organisations and the Office of Student Life & the Amnesty International Midwest Regional Office in Chicago.
We have no dues, but we recommend that you join Amnesty International USA.
